Before the Income Tax
Some segments of society feel as if we need to take from people in order to "create" jobs. How did we build a nation before income tax? Federal income tax does not directly fund the government. The federal income tax and IRS were both born in , the same year the Federal Reserve Act was signed into law.

Back in the beginning before taxes the federal government just did what they were meant to do, defend the country, and it was paid for by internal taxes on items such as whisky and land , and external taxes tariffs and customs duties on imported goods.

Keep in mind that the railroads, shipping, and wagon transportation were all private ventures. There were state toll roads and fees charged for use of canals and river crossings. The nation was built prior to the institution of socialist policies.
Despite the New Deal saddling the US with socialist seeds, the US was able to remain prosperous post WW2, as the economies of most of our competitors were destroyed in the war. This, coupled with pent up demand, fueled a boom. Now we have stiff competition and muted demand, yet have a government with a big appetite for spending.
The US must adjust to the new world economy, in which the US is not the main producer of goods, and realize that spending must be cut. The socialist gravy train is over.
